Proteomics Core Facilities and Biotracker™ Sample Management System (LIMS) - A Happy Union

Many research groups that are studying the proteome are challenged with multiple steps and fragmented information.  We have configured Biotracker™, a flexible platform to track and manage samples to meet core needs for labs that are doing proteomics.  Biotracker™ can help a proteomics facility to manage the samples, inventory, people, instruments, and robots.  This scalable platform can meet needs of labs conducting genomics, sequencing, gene expression, and now proteomics.

Biotracker™ (LIMS) has been configured to meet data flow for core labs that are working on Proteomic Samples. This LIMS solution can manage critical components of sample lifecycle, including aliquots of specimens, volumes of biological and chemical data and query tools to manage the projects and samples in one interface. Ocimum has built an extensible proteomic and genomic based data model for proteomics work flow. This platform understands the context of data being integrated and relationships between associated data.  It also allows scientists to query, view, and analyze research data without reformatting their data-gathering methodology, or changing to multiple product interfaces. The prime benefit is to provide an environment in which scientists can interpret their results and increase production of data to understand the proteome.

The objective is to simplify the process of moving samples associated with projects from sample handling to fractionation, to gels spots, to a Mass Spectrometer, and finally to protein identification.

Identification of Gene Signatures in Rejected Lung Transplants

Researchers are making substantial advances in identification of Gene Signatures. A significant event in the post-genomics era was the development of high throughput technologies such as microarrays that provide huge volumes of complex data. Studying the differential expression of genes coding for various factors, mapping genes onto biological pathways, understanding their function and interactions enable scientists to identify expression patterns or signatures associated with diseases and drug response.

Microarrays are now all set to revolutionize the field of transplantation medicine. A case study on lung transplant using Genowiz™ a microarray data analysis tool developed by Ocimum Biosolutions has been illustrated in the following article. More...

OligoStar™: Oligo Design Tool

As DNA microarrays emerge as the fundamental technology for post-genome research, the need for a fast, efficient, large-scale probe design tool is of great importance to the scientific community across the globe.

OligoStar™, a software from Ocimum Biosolutions, uses a proprietary knowledge-based algorithm to select probe candidates from desired gene sequences. The tool offers custom probe designs based on data provided by customer as well as from our own pre-designed genome sets. Being a multi-step probe selection process, the software provides greater flexibility in selecting probes by applying filter criterion at each step. More...

OptGene™: Novel Gene Optimizing Software Suite - A Case Study

Various applications in the field of synthetic biology such as expression of transgenes of prokaryotic and eukaryotic origin, drug and target validation, gene therapy or siRNA mediated knockouts rely greatly on fast, efficient and durable expression of different tissues in host cell.

To facilitate these applications, OptGene™ now features a sophisticated graphical user interface for designing and optimizing DNA sequences both interactively and automatically. The software comprises a robust automated molecular biology workflow with sophisticated bioinformatics algorithms, which integrate a large set of optimization parameters, such as codon usage, mRNA secondary structure, splice site detection, or GC content, to provide customers with a fully integrated program for gene optimization. Seminar on “Trends in Applied Genomics” by Dr. Christian Betz, Germany

Ocimum Biosolutions organized a free interactive seminar on "Trends in Applied Genomics". This workshop familiarized researchers and scientists with the latest trends in the field of applied genomics. The seminar was organized in four major cities of India, i.e., Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Bangalore.

The key speakers in the seminar were Dr. Christian Betz, Global Production Manager, Mr. Shravan Karpuram, V.P BioIT and Dr. Madhuri Kota, Sr. Scientist BioIT.

In this seminar, various aspects of genomics, use of microarray technology and oligos were discussed. Microarray technologies evoked a very good response from the R&D community. The seminar helped participants understand how microarray-based gene sequence analysis can reduce research cycle. The participants also showed interest in data analysis based on bioinformatics tools, which is one of the core competencies of Ocimum Biosolutions.
