Ocimum Biosolutions acquired the Microarrays division of MWG Biotech, a world leader in Genomics. As part of this deal, Ocimum Biosolutions took over MWG's portfolio of biochips on the complete genomes of a multitude of model organisms (including rat, mouse, zebra, and fish) as well as a biochip representing the complete human genome. These would now be known as OciChips™.
Ocimum Biosolutions will continue to produce all MWG Biotech catalog products unchanged and according to same high quality standards. This provides guarantee to all former MWG Biotech customers that they will able to seamlessly carry on with ongoing research projects and will not have to worry about compatibility of data. It is worthwhile for MWG's Custom Array customers to contact Ocimum Biosolutions, as for most of them Ocimum Biosolutions will be able to produce further batches of their custom arrays at very attractive prices.

With many new annotations and more sequence information in place, it became imperative to update the existing Mouse 30K OciChip™ and to make this progress available to our customers. It goes without saying that Ocimum Biosolutions continues to produce the older version of the Mouse 30K OciChip™ (slides A, B, C) in order to enable all scientists to continue any research projects with the product. The Mouse 30K OciChip™ and OligoSet has continued unchanged after Ocimum Biosolutions acquired the microarray business from MWG Biotech like all other MWG Biotech catalog arrays. Dr. Kai Wilkens, Product Manager Arrays, Ocimum Biosolutions said, “ In addition to utilizing most recent data and annotations the new Mouse Array has the major advantage that it now comes all on one slide”. Ocimum Biosolutions also develops a new Rat 30K OciChip™ and oligoset based on the completed sequence data published last year. This will complete the series of updates for the most prominent three arrays covering human, mouse and rat genomes.
Ocimum Biosolutions Inflammation Arrays (Human and Mouse) have been developed and extensively validated in cooperation with Professor Kracht's Group at the Medical High School Hanover, Germany. It is now possible to access a huge amount of data online, established with Ocimum Biosolutions Inflammation Arrays in numerous experimental settings in Hanover. Dr. Kai Wilkens, Product Manager Arrays, Ocimum Biosolutions remarked, “ Internationally, Professor Kracht's Group has one of the best reputations in immune response research. Their work tremendously contributed to the quality of the array and finally, the data produced with it.”
Along with its OciChip™ arrays, Ocimum Biosolutions now offers a full fledged hybridization service for expression profiling, including first pass data analysis taking advantage of the in-house produced Genowiz™ array analysis software solution. This offers the opportunity to get access to the array technology without hardware investments and no learning delays but have results immediately. The customer can take advantage of a variety of options including amplification protocols starting with as little as 100 ng of total RNA. The service successfully started in June 2005 in the Munich, Germany and soon will be available from Indianapolis, USA and Hyderabad, India to serve the North American and Asian markets alike.
