Ocimum has over 10 years of experience in validation of LIMS and Bioinformatics software tools. Built over the years, the software validation team has a right mix of people with Molecular Biology, Engineering, Bioinformatics, Statistics and Software Testing skills. More than 50% of the team members are Certified Software Test Engineers from QAI, and have a professional level of competence in the principles and practices of software quality control.

The Testing and Quality Control team at Ocimum performs the following activities:

• Software validation against customer requirements, using manual as well as automated testing methodologies
• Verification of project related documents for correctness and completeness to ensure that the product is being built in right manner
• Preparation of Test Plan and Test Cases
• Functional Testing of Software, Test Documentation, Test Result Interpretation and Defect Reporting
• Comparative Product Evaluation using Stress and Performance Testing
• Technical Editing of manuals, guides and user documentation

Software Test Engineers are involved in the Software Cycle right from requirements analysis to design and development review.

The team uses Datatracker, an indigenously developed tool for test case management. Datatracker allows testers to document requirements, test plans, test cases and has several novel features such as requirements traceability, metrics calculation, test estimation and generation of test reports. In addition to Datatracker, the team uses world class tools such as IBM Rational Functional Tester for functional regression testing, Selenium for web applications testing, SoapUI Pro for Web Services testing, Jira and Bugzilla for bug reporting.
